Teachers Beyond Borders Schools
CASTLE ROAD SPECIAL SCHOOL (CAROSS), Accra
Castle Road Special School (CAROSS) is situated within the Accra Psychiatric
Hospital. The students have severe learning difficulties, not mental illness.
The school provides an education for these young people in two classes and is staffed by a Headteacher, Mr Gadotor with five teachers.
All the students live on the hospital ward and few have much contact
with their families.
TBB is undertaking the following projects at CAROSS
1. Supporting Kofi, a young man who lives at the hospital with Cerebal Palsy.
He cannot walk and he has no wheel chair so hasn't been attending the school.
TBB have provided him with a wheelchair which has begun to change his life.

LA PRESBYTERIAN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, Accra
La Presbyterian Senior Secondary School staff discussing the needs and challenges of being a teacher in their school. We looked at different book options that HarperCollins were donating to the school. TBB were planning a visit to the school with poet/actor Shango Baku to study their exam drama piece 'The Gods Are Not To Blame'.
During a two week residency at La Presby school, the students were happy to rehearse a scene of the play that they were writing an exam for. It helped them to understand the scene and it was an opportunity for the students to celebrate their cultural dance and costume during the final performance.
